Shared enquiry and assessment questions
An online enquiry does not lodge a credit application. A broker first confirms the request, explains the relevant information and discusses potentially suitable pathways.
What do I need to apply for a loan?
All applicants need to be Australian residents, over the age of 18 and earning an income from employment or a pension. A broker will confirm the documents relevant to your request before anything is lodged.
Where can I see my credit history?
For Australian consumers, you can obtain your credit history from credit reporting bodies such as Experian, illion and Equifax. These bodies must provide free access to your credit report every 12 months. If you have been refused credit within the last 90 days, you may be eligible for a free credit report.
Can I get finance if I’m currently bankrupt?
RateSmart Finance does not assist clients who are currently bankrupt or under debt review. Once discharged, we can look to assist subject to lender criteria.
What are my repayment options?
Repayment options depend on the loan type, interest rate structure and the lenders selected. Generally, most lenders offer monthly, fortnightly or weekly direct debit repayments as standard.
What if I have been declined elsewhere?
It is always worth getting a second opinion. With a large panel of lenders and our expertise, we can re-assess your situation carefully. A quote request is not an approval and we will explain any credit enquiry before it is made.
Do you do credit history checks?
Yes. As part of our process we conduct a thorough credit history review when progressing an application. If we find discrepancies, we will contact you to discuss them and assist where we can.
Do I have to apply for a loan online?
No. RateSmart Finance can also assist you over the phone. You will need access to email so we can send and receive necessary documents. Call us on 03 8905 3731.
What information may I need to provide?
Requirements vary by lender and request. Common starting points include identification, income or business evidence, existing commitments, and information about the asset or purpose. A broker confirms what is relevant before documents are requested.
Do I need to visit the St Kilda Road office?
No. Most enquiries start online or by phone. An in-person discussion can be arranged when it helps.
Can the process start online?
Yes. The guided quote records the basics so the follow-up conversation can focus on relevant details.
Do I need every document before enquiring?
No. Start with the initial details; the broker can explain what may be needed later.
Does asking for a quote guarantee approval?
No. A quote request starts a broker conversation. Approval, pricing and conditions depend on lender assessment and your circumstances.
